Every mother has the power to bring new life
but together we can birth a movement.
There are many ways you can support our movement and become part of the United Birth Coalition. We need your help to create generational change for families in Ohio, Indiana, and beyond.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION COULD MAKE THE DIFFERENCE FOR A MOM AND HER BABY.
By supporting UBC’s mission, you are making a difference for birthing families. We could use your help, in whatever way you are able to support.
Safer birth goes beyond physical care.
It involves personal autonomy, emotional and spiritual support, parental empowerment, flexibility to allow physiologic birth, patience, lactation knowledge, and several weeks of attentive, postpartum care
MIDWIVES ARE TRAINED IN ALL OF THESE ASPECTS.
Midwifery care has shown time and again to improve birth outcomes in low risk pregnancies. Beyond this, midwives are also highly trained in recognizing pregnancy complications, communicating with obstetricians when necessary, and providing optimal newborn care.
By ensuring that trained midwives receive the licensing that they deserve and are able to run freestanding birth centers in every state, you are supporting quality access to prenatal and postpartum care for mothers and babies across our country, including for BIPOC families who would otherwise have suboptimal perinatal care.
In 2023, nearly 15% of Ohio counties were considered Maternity Care Deserts and 14.5% of mothers received inadequate prenatal care.
By supporting the United Birth Coalition, you are helping to INCREASE access to prenatal healthcare and birth options for mothers across the Midwest.
To achieve our mission of making the US a safer place to give birth, we are working to change Ohio & Indiana state legislature to reflect laws that will ensure freestanding birth centers can operate legally and in support of hospitals, and to provide licensing and rights to CPMs, CNMs, and CMs to care for mothers and babies in any setting.
Midwives are highly trained health professionals who specialize in supporting people through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Their training covers the full spectrum of care for healthy, low-risk pregnancies, including:
Monitoring the health of both parent and baby through regular checkups, physical assessments, lab work, ultrasounds, and screenings. Midwives are trained to detect early signs of complications and refer to or collaborate with physicians when needed.
01 Prenatal Care
Providing hands-on, evidence-based care during labor, supporting physiologic (natural) birth, offering comfort measures, and using medical skills such as monitoring vital signs, assessing fetal well-being, managing normal complications, and performing emergency interventions within their scope.
02 Labor & Birth
Caring for the birthing parent’s recovery, supporting lactation and emotional well-being, and ensuring the newborn is healthy and thriving in the crucial first weeks.
03 Postpartum & Newborn Care
"Far too many women leave their birth space tattered instead of in her power. For me, I felt like I left this dimension, encountered all parts of me and brought my baby home. To walk other women through this portal is such an annointing that I don’t take lightly. There’s truly nothing like it and it set me up to believe I can handle anything that comes my way in motherhood."

Midwives are more than "alternative" →
Midwives are educated in normal, healthy pregnancy and birth, and are experts in supporting natural, physiologic processes.
They are skilled in early detection of complications and know when referral to obstetric care is appropriate, ensuring safety while avoiding unnecessary interventions.
Research consistently shows that midwifery care leads to excellent outcomes for low-risk pregnancies — including lower rates of cesarean section, reduced use of interventions, higher breastfeeding initiation, and greater satisfaction with the birth experience.
In many countries, midwives are the standard primary providers for most pregnancies, with obstetricians providing specialized backup only when complications arise.
Midwives are not an “alternative” to medical care — they are medical professionals who provide safe, comprehensive, and deeply personalized maternity care for those with low-risk pregnancies.
By donating in support of UBC’s efforts, you are supporting the opportunity for more mothers and babies to have safer pregnancies, births, and supportive postpartum care.
